Dr. William Hall, MD
Founder and Medical Director of The Lipedema Institute. Dr. Hall built the practice around a single observation — that women with lipedema needed a clinician whose entire week is lipedema, not a brief part of someone else’s surgical menu. The practice is the answer to that observation, and his clinical work is the heart of it.

Founder and Medical Director of The Lipedema Institute, Scottsdale, Arizona. The training and credentials listed below are being finalized with Dr. Hall and will be published once verified.
How he ended up doing this
Most surgeons who treat lipedema arrived at it sideways — usually through cosmetic liposuction practice, occasionally through vascular or general surgery. Dr. Hall is one of them. What changed is what he did once he recognized the disease.
Early in his career, the patients who came in for “stubborn fat” looked the same in ways that should not have been a coincidence: symmetric, painful, easy bruising, normal feet, family history. He started reading the lipedema literature. He started listening to the patients, who had often been listening to themselves for two decades. And he started slowly converting his practice — first by adding it, then by emphasizing it, then by stopping everything else and doing only this.

Philosophy & approach to patient care
A few things Dr. Hall holds firmly enough that they shape every clinical decision in the practice:
- Believe you. Women with lipedema have usually been disbelieved for a long time. The first thing this practice does is take you seriously.
- Diagnose carefully. Lipedema is a clinical diagnosis. It takes a careful history, a careful exam, and ruling out the things it is commonly confused with (obesity, lymphedema, venous insufficiency).
- Conservative care first. Compression, MLD, anti-inflammatory nutrition, and lymph-friendly movement are the foundation under every patient — surgical or not.
- Surgery only when it changes the trajectory. Lymph-sparing surgical fat reduction is the most decisive thing we offer for the right patient at the right stage. It is the wrong thing for everyone else. Dr. Hall will tell you “not now” or “not us” without hesitation when that is the right answer.
- Stay with you for life. Lipedema is chronic. We follow you indefinitely — at 2, 6, 12, 24 months and annually after that.
Why he built a dedicated practice
The short version: because no one else was. The longer version is that specialization meaningfully changes outcomes in a disease that is rare enough at any given primary-care office that no generalist sees the pattern, but common enough that there is a clear population of women whose lives change when they finally find a clinician who does see it. Building an institution-shaped practice was the way to make that match happen reliably.
